Cereals 2016 will see the launch of Weaving Machinery’s updated and improved zero-till Drill.
After a hugely successful first year in the field the GD Drill has provided several solutions to current cereal production issues including volunteer control, establishment costs and the ability to drill into standing crops in a variety of seed beds. To complement the coulter design improvements have been made throughout the trailed seed hopper.
The refreshed design sees the seed hopper capacity increasing to 2.85 Tons allowing operators to drill for longer between stops, a new and improved easy access hopper cover has been developed adding to the usability of the drill. Aware of farmers concerns over soil structure and health, Weaving’s have fitted as standard the new generation Mitas Agriterra 02 tyres to the trailed GD models to help alleviate compaction and wheeling’s. Able to run at lower working pressures and with a wider footprint the new tyres handle the increased weight of the hopper capacity without impeding on soil health. A new streamlined variable front weight block allows operators to match the balance of the machine to the tractor and also incorporates an integral toolbox and hopper access steps finishing off the improvements to the drill.
Refinements to the GD Coulter have been delivered in the form of a new operator friendly seed tube. If coulter blockages arise the seed tube is detached from the disc coulter within seconds to reduce machine down time in the field.
A GD6000T will be on show along with the mounted GD3000M on stand 500 at the Cereals Event.
After a successful autumn campaign with the GD Drill Weaving Machinery in conjunction with Tony Reynolds held an Open Day at Thurlby Grange Farm Nr Bourne, Lincs to show customers from the UK and Northern France the benefits of No-till and low disturbance direct drilling. Tony Reynolds who currently has two trailed GD Drills explained why he has be ‘No-Tilling’ for over 15 years. Many points were raised throughout the day such as the use of a stripper header, reducing the use of chemicals and fertilisers and increasing worm population and organic matter within the soil. Over the course of the day 32 farmers learnt how Tony has managed to dramatically reduce his establishment costs as well as improve the overall health of the soil across both of his farms. The GD4800T was on hand to show customers the benefits of the simple GD coulter and the advantages of Avadex and Slug/Fertiliser applicators. The day finished off with lots of discussion about how no-till would work in varying soil types and conditions across the UK and France. Weaving Machinery will be demonstrating the GD Drill across the UK this spring for more information call 01386 49155
New 8 Metre Trailed Cultivator from Weaving Machinery.
LAMMA 2016 will see the launch of Weaving’s Short Disc 8000T. To complement the existing and hugely successful Short Disc range, Weaving Machinery have recognised the need for a higher output model to maximise efficiency with their new 8 Metre model.
Currently in use across the UK this well recognised shallow cultivator is fast and economical to use, perfect for chitting weed-seeds and volunteers producing a level and uniformed finish. Weaving Machinery are pleased to promote the new larger model as rarely has the need for maximising efficiency and productivity been required more so than today.
Built for reliability and endurance, the Weaving Short Disc cultivators have a 12 month guarantee on non-wearing parts. The low maintenance requirement is a key feature with boron steel notched discs mounted on maintenance free fully sealed bearing hubs. The powder coating surface treatment inhibits corrosion and extends working life on all metal components.
Standard equipment for the Short Disc 8000T includes 64 scalloped boron discs followed by a full width ‘V’ ring roller. Transport lights, hydraulic brakes and BKT flotation tyres coupled with a compact 3 Metre transport width make this machine fully road compatible.
A modest power requirement of 250HP enables operators to match productivity against efficiency. High work rates are achievable whilst maintaining working depths between 1.2cm (1/2″) to 7.6cm (3″) .
The heavy duty, horizontally folding universal Tool Carrier allows operators to interchange implements to utilise the machine to its full capacity throughout the year.
The Short Disc 8000T will be available from January 2016 priced at £28,600 ex VAT.

We have just landed back at the yard after a busy and successful Royal Welsh Show. We were very pleased to be presented with a highly commended certificate for the Gwobe Dr Alban Davies Trophy for an innovation that shows the most potential for improving agriculture in Wales for our GD3000M. Once again the Agrimaster range of flail mowers were popular at the show with lots enquiries and sales. The GD Drill also proved very popular with lots of enquiries for drilling grass seeds into existing pasture. We would like to thank all of the customers who took the time to come on to the stand to see us, as well as the Royal Welsh Show team who again put on an excellent show. The next forthcoming shows in the diary are Burwarton and Moreton in Marsh, we look forward to seeing you there!
The 2015 Cereals event saw the official launch of the GD Drill and what a launch it was! We welcomed lots of existing and new customers on to the stand to see what the drill was about. On show we had both a 3 Metre mounted and a 6 Metre trailed each proving just as popular as the other. We also welcomed Tony Gent on to the stand for the two days to talk visitors though the GD Coulter. We would like to thank all of the customers who took the time to come on to the stand to see us, as well as the Cereals Event team who again put on an excellent show. The next forthcoming shows in the diary are The Royal Highland, Lincolnshire Show and The Royal Welsh, we look forward to seeing you there!
Cereals 2015 will see the launch of Weaving Machinery’s new zero-till Drill. With over 20 years of experience of producing zero-tillage equipment the introduction of the new GD (Gent Disc) Drill brings a refreshing look to the tried and tested Big Disc Drill. Weaving Machinery has been working in conjunction with Lincolnshire farmer Tony Gent to develop the new patented GD coulter and have arrived with a disc coulter design which satisfies all drilling systems. The new GD coulter provides remarkably low soil disturbance, has a very low draught requirement of 40HP per meter and has an excellent service life. The principal behind the GD coulter design is based on a double disc arrangement, mounted on a 25° angle off the vertical which is able to pivot around a central kingpin mounted within the coulter body. The larger leading outer disc cuts an opening slice in the soil whilst the smaller inner disc is in effect undermining the ‘upper’ side forming an opening for the seed to be placed precisely. The lifted wall of the soil is quickly firmed down onto the seed by the single press wheel. The press wheel also acts as a depth regulator for the disc coulters. Drilling depth is adjusted by moving a single pin through a bank of holes with a depth range of 0-130mm in 15mm increments. Coulters are individually pressurised by a hydraulic system providing up to 200Kg of downwards pressure helping to maintain consistent contact with the ground and follow contours and undulations.
This refined design aided by an inter-row clearance of 1,000mm has resulted in a coulter that is able to work in extremely trashy conditions and cover crops without creating an opportunity for hair-pinning to arise. This adaptable system can be used on all cultivation systems and soil types.
The new GD coulter will be available in either a mounted or trailed format. Mounted zero-till machines will be a new addition to Weaving Machinery’s portfolio and will be available in widths from 3 to 4.8 Metres complete with a 1.2 Ton seed tank. Trailed variants will be offered to meet the demands of large farmers and contractors, available in working width of 4 to 8 Metres mounted on a Weaving’s existing 2.5 Ton seed cart.
All drills as standard will be fitted with RDS electronic metering, 6 coulters per meter at a minimum row spacing of 167mm (adjustable), roll over cover, tank sieve and work lights.
